The Day We Gave Him to the Sea
The Day We Gave Him to the Sea, is a tribute to my father who passed away on a beach in Portugal in 2014. A series of animated waves traveling down the beach, were made using chalk pastel on brown paper. The animation is played in a loop. The simple images mirror the relentlessness of the tide, a potent symbol of the passing of time. The act of creating the animation meant drawing and redrawing the line of the water down the page. The repetitiveness of this act, done over the course of several months, became something like meditation and helped me come to terms with my fathers death.
This work has never been exhibited.
